Concessions and carer tickets
We recognise that some visitors may need help to visit and we offer free entry for an accompanying carer, this can be added when making your booking. Please note this is limited to one carer per transaction (ID to be provided on arrival).
Deaf or hard of hearing visitors
For visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing, we offer typed scripts of the performance tour as well as the audio tour section of the experience. A full tour transcript is also available on our free Jail app.
Blind or partially sighted visitors
We can offer audio handsets for blind or partially sighted visitors as well as written scripts of the performance and audio sections in sans serif font, size 14.
Visitors with limited mobility
The performance tour is generally accessible for all, taking place in the corridor and larger rooms. The doorways into the prison cells, however, are quite narrow, so access for wheelchair users is limited.
Access to the Tower and Exercise Yard is also limited for wheelchair users and many with mobility issues due to some additional steps. There is a lift to the third floor although there is a spiral staircase beyond this up to the Tower viewing platform.
Visitors with sensory requirements
For those with anxiety or sensory sensitivity, we must warn that there are occasional loud noises and sound effects throughout the tour. If these are likely to cause distress, please let one of our members of staff know, when you arrive at the attraction. We are happy to see what adjustments can be made to accommodate visitors’ needs. Find out more about our Relaxed Self-Guided Tours here.
Disabled facilities & respite seating
We have a disabled toilet on site and several seats spaced throughout the attraction for visitors’ comfort.
Dogs
Guide Dogs, Comfort Dogs and well behaved canines of all shapes and sizes are welcome – though we would ask that they be kept on a leash within the building.
Parking
Free Visitor Parking is available at the rear of the Old Town Jail, with easy access for Wheelchairs or those with mobility issues.
We welcome suggestions as to how we can improve standards of accessibility and comfort for all our inmates.
